During the 2019 European Society of Retina Specialists congress, Zeiss Medical Technology debuted its new Optical Coherence Tomography device. The CIRRUS 6000 offers clinicians the ability to scan patients faster and more efficiently, as well as providing more detailed imaging. This is due to the OCT device’s 100kHz speed, as well as a deeper scanning lens. The CIRRUS 6000 provides built-in workflow protocols for efficiency and generates “wellness reports” that are easier for the patient to understand.

Based on iData Research’s industry analysis, unit sales growth in the OCT market is expected to continue; however, it will decelerate over the forecast as the initial growth of hybrid devices also slows. Early users of OCTs are expected to upgrade to more advanced models. Also, optometrists and ophthalmologists have begun to purchase standalone OCT equipment. Hybrid OCTs are gaining more market share and are a premium device. Innovation from market leaders like Carl Zeiss Meditec will help maintain a higher average selling price (ASP) for this segment of the Ophthalmic Device Market.

Jim Mazzo, Global President of Ophthalmic Devices at Carl Zeiss Meditec stated that the CIRRUS 6000 “was designed with the patient in mind, enabling doctors to continue accessing their patient data from CIRRUS devices that are crucial to effective long-term patient care.” He added that Zeiss is “committed to our customers and believe this will become an essential asset to their practice.”

“ZEISS is dedicated to advancing eye care through development of new and innovative solutions, like the CIRRUS 6000,” said Dr. Ludwin Monz, President and CEO of Carl Zeiss Meditec AG. “With our comprehensive diagnostics portfolio, we will continue to create better vision standards to benefit patients today and in the future.” The CIRRUS 6000 is the latest addition to their portfolio of OCT devices. by: iData Research
